Selecting the right envelope to represent your business, is an important decision. Careful consideration of cost, size, colour, seal and safety of documents needs to be taken into account.
Size
Consider the documents you will be sending and their importance. If they need to be kept flat, a C4 envelope may be required. If the documents can be folded, a DL envelope or C5 would be more suitable.
The following diagram shows how an A4 sheet fits into the different sizes.

Style
There are several styles of envelopes, each one suitable for a different types of document that might be sent. The wallet and banker envelopes open along the long edge, pocket envelopes open on the short edge. Booklet envelopes are heavier in weight and are best for sending books, financial reports and other heavy documents.
There are also different styles of seals. Peel and seal, and self-sealing flaps are cost effective when sending small to medium quantities of letters. The pre-gummed versions are best for higher volumes or via a mailing house where they are run through a mailing machine and moistened automatically.
Presentation and Colour
Presentation should be kept simple and comply with Australia Post envelope design and addressing guidelines.
White envelopes are suitable for a wide range of purposes and are inexpensive. Brown envelopes are best for important and confidential documents. Coloured envelopes are available and can be very effective in representing a business’ branding and identity.
